Oh my!!! I guess the BIOS needs to be updated. The issue came back soon after I posted last. Although it's been a few days (again) of not having problems since I changed the monitor settings from 85 to 75 Hertz refresh rate. Something tells me it is not fixed though.

    Here's my plan:
    Do a complete system backup.
    Cross my fingers and toes.
    Follow BIOS fix.

    *afraid*

    I will post updates.

fasteddy - Thanks and good luck! I am glad you stumbled upon this post!

Red face Did you ever find out what the problem was?

    Details:
I am usually clicking something (browsing the web, opening a program, etc) and the monitor goes blank. The monitor light stays green. The HD light doesn't flicker. The monitor doesn't flicker. I've tried all combinations of keyboard keys including Stand By, the Windows key, ALT-CTRL-DEL, etc, but it does nothing. I've tried inserting a CD with some program setup in it, nothing. I have to do a cold boot to get back to what I was doing . Needless to say, I lose all the work I was in the middle of ... *sigh*

I am at a loss! I bought this computer in July/August 2005 but I kept my old monitor. It happens maybe 2-7 times a week. Please help!

    Here are the specs:

    HP Pavilion a1130n
    AMD Athlon 3500+ / 64 processor
    1GB SDRAM PC3200 DDR
    250GB HD
    ATI RADEON Xpress 200 Series / 128MB

    Monitor:
I think I bought the monitor back in 2001 or 2002.
    Viewsonic PF790
    19 in CRT
    Screen res: 1280 x 1024 @ 85 Herz
I have installed the latest driver from the Viewsonic website

    Thanks in advance,

    Jessica

    Hi kmauryo,

Yes, like the other poster said it is the BIOS. I have not done the update yet because it hasn't crashed since I posted last until two nights ago. But I am planning to do it ASAP. Doing the backup will be the first painful step!
