Runtime Error when trying to open IE

    Hi All,

My son-in-law just put Wal-Mart's music download store on his XP SP2 machine and now he is unable to open Internet Explorer. He's getting a Visual C++ runtime error. When he opens event viewer, the event ID is 11706. I browsed over to Event ID and from their information it appears to be an issue with MSI installer. Hmmm??? He has the latest version of MSI installer on his machine (v3.1).

    Any ideas???

BTW, he has uninstalled the Wal-Mart software through the control panel.

    Hey John,

All searches seem to point away from IE, and focus more on Office installation problems with the same event ID: http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...taller&phase=1 has he tried using the System File Checker(Start|Run|sfc /scannow) that would be my first suggestion, also try to repair IE.

    Hi Liam,

Thanks for your interest. He couldn't find any problem when he ran the sfc, so he did a system restore and all seems well for now. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

    Thanks again for the help.......
