Windows SP2 issues of reading bigger external hard drive
hello my first post.
only reads 127 gig over 160 gig
Labtop
Gateway M320
pentium M
80 gig
Phoneix bios
i have read other threads that either installing sp2 or updating the bios but does this work on a external deskstar 160 gig hard drive.
Is there any way to partion an external hard drive?
Any other methods of allowing the computer to recongize a bigger hard drive without updating or installing sp2?

Nikelknights--I know you can partition a USB external hard drive using Partition Magic (I use version 8.0). I would expect you can use the Disk Management tool that comes with WindowsXP, but I never tried.

Not clear whether you have WinXP SP2 yet or not. SP2 is supposed to overcome the 127/137GB recognition limit. Other ideas

You should seriously consider SP2, since MS will stop supporting SP1 next year (I believe).
