New hardware, new 98SE setup, all video is a slideshow.

I have a new ChainTech NVidia GeForce SA5500 graphics card and an AMD 3100+ processor on a new ABIT motherboard.

I'm trying to run movies, video games, et cetera on this setup, and all I get is a slideshow effect. Utterly unacceptable, can't be run.

I'm doing all this on Windows 98SE with DX 9.0c.

I'm thinking... the graphics card doesn't like Win 98? The disk that came with the card contained a driver that was meant for 2k/XP systems, and wouldn't accpet 98SE. I actually had to go to their site and nab the right driver for my card.

Anyway, what other details can I give that would help? Anyone else had problems running the more recent NVidia cards with 98SE?

    Welcome to VirtualDr

I would imagine doing a clean install of Windows XP would be a good place to start.

Well, there's a problem with that.

I don't currently have a copy of Windows XP.

I'm still running Windows 98SE. This is a clean install, but it still doesn't want to handle higher graphical functions correctly.

I'm just wondering if anyone actually has experienced problems with the more recent NVidia cards under 98SE. I think that's what my problem is, anyway.

What is the monitor refresh rate set for?

What motherboard and cpu are you using?
