mrtRate[Solved]
In event viewer, I am getting this error at every system start: (Paraphrased)
"The mrtRate service failed to start because the file could not be found"
According to Microsoft, "mrtRate" is the new worm scanner that was recently introduced and is to be updated monthly; I did get an update recently.
I cannot find this service on my system, and it is not running. I presume that I had a corrupted download, probably the first d/l because this error appeared before the update.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the problem? I really need to know how to remove the service on my comp and perhaps how to get a new download.
A search for mrtRate on my comp gets no results.
Thanks for any suggestions.

The update runs once a month. Is the event showing up often?

Does this ring any bells. Meaning are you using Quickbooks?
"The Mrtrate.sys driver is used by QuickBooks for background downloading."

Sorry, no Quickbooks. I do have Quicken 2005 installed, but a search for "mrt*.sys" doesn't find anything. I have already searched the entire computer for mrtRate w/o success.
The thought of this file pertaining to a Windows update comes from M/S; one of their support centers gave me this result.

Start->Run->type MSCONFIG and look in the startup tab. If you see any reference to mrtrate you might uncheck it.

Sorry. Steve, that is one of the first things I looked at.
Tough little bugger, huh?

Steve, the error is gone. You headed me in the right direction; it is a Quicken file, and Quicken support provided the cure (I disabled the quicken background driver).
So, thanks for the lead: all is well!

gwatkins--A search on www.google.com is always a good idea. You would have found out where mrtrate came from quite quickly.
