    Unhappy Printer recommendations, anyone?

For a couple of years now, I'm had a Canon Pixma ip3600 printer. At first I really liked it because of its separate ink tanks, but somehow it has started to malfunction. It prints fine for a page or two, then makes a rude noise (like AWWWWK) and stops dead. Then it issues an error message and asks me to cancel printing, turn off the printer, then restart it. I like to do a fair amount of printing (mostly text but certainly some color), so the thing's malfunction is really annoying. And besides that, Canon a little while ago informed users that it had a new drive for this model that was supposed to fix this problem. I had high hopes, but it didn't.

Last week I wanted to print out a birthday card I had made for my sister, but I just couldn't get it done, thanks (or no thanks) to the printer.

    What good alternatives are there?

    Thanks

Did you try unplugging the power from the printer for, let us say 10 minutes or more?

    Sometimes that clears up problems.

    Cool Printer problem

Good God almighty, that was fast! You must have been online and all ready to reply.

No, I hadn't tried unplugging, waiting and replugging, but I'll try it tomorrow (because it's sort of late here and I don't really want to do much more just now). I'll report back on that.

    Alternatives to inkjet printers:

I have the HL-3070CW, and it does what I need. It would not be the best choice for printing color photos, but for maps, and other non-photo printing it is fine.

    Smile Printer problem

Well, Train, you know what? I tried your suggestion and it worked! We'll see what happens; it might well go back to the way it was, but for now, it's OK.

    Cheers

Something gets hung up in memory that is corrupt. My best guess and the unplug times lets it drain away.
    Thanks for the update!!

    Thumbs up Printer problem

Far out!! (Don't I just sound like a '60s hippie.)

I never would've believed something like that would work. Never even occurred to me.

    Thanks

    Angry Printer problem

Well, darn. It went back to its old wicked ways. I just might have to consider a new printer after all. Sigh. Oh well.

Regarding some other kind of printer, I really just want another inkjet.

And good cartridge life. And this is the brand I use when printing color graphics.

    Thumbs up Printer recommendations

We ended up getting an HP Officejet 6500 Aplus. Whatever that means. It's wireless, which allows my son is to print from his computer in another room.

So far, it works a lot better than the Canon did. I'm happy with it.
