    Sound not working in Vista

I used to have Windows XP on my PC and my sound worked fine. Then I installed Vista and I tried to Overclock it, but it kept making my PC restart (I failed, haha) so then I just reset everything in my BIOS to the original default so my computer can run Vista normally.

When I tried to use my speakers now, even my headphones, they don't work. I checked the Sound in the Control Panel and it says my Digital Output Device is working, however, where it says Speakers and Headphones, they both show Not Plugged In. I then checked my Device Manager and there are no Exclamation marks by my Sound. I also tried to check if there was an update for the driver, but it's up to date. What can I do to remedy this? Thanks!

In the BIOS, Integrated Peripherals, is the AC97 controller enabled?
Normally where the on board sound is found.

If you are using onboard sound, and most people are, make sure that it is enabled in the BIOS, under "Integrated peripherals" or similar. It could have become disabled when you reset the BIOS defaults.

It's onboard. I checked the BIOS, and here's how it's configured:

    Onboard Devices Configuration
    >High Definition Audio
    >>Front Panel Type
    >>>AC 97
    >>>HD Audio

HD Audio is the one selected. I tried to select AC 97 and saved it, then when the computer started up I tried the sound again, and still no sound =\

I checked the Sound in the Control Panel and it says my Digital Output Device is working
    Are there any other options?

Please state the make/model of your motherboard.

Aren't you using the Creative add-on card? I think you need to reload those drivers.

I'd try reinstalling the Sound Blaster X-Fi Utility.

    Go to http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

Near the top left of the page is a little gray box labeled "DOWNLOAD ...........".

Right under that, where it says "Input Model to Search, type in "Maximus II Formula" (without the quotes).

In the "Select Category" box below that, select "Utilities".

    Click the "Search Info" button.

Wait a few seconds and a "Maximus II Formula" link will appear. Click it.

The screen will darken with a prompt to select your Operating System. Select it and click the "Search" button.

(Ignore the prompt to run the 'add-on').

Scroll down about two-thirds of the way down the page and you'll see the "Sound Blaster X-Fi Utility V1.0 for Windows XP/Vista & Windows 64bit XP/Vista."

Click the "Global" (not the "Global DLM") to start the 172.54 MB download of "SB_XFi_Utility_V10_XPVista.zip".
