Error when installing printer "RPC server is unavailable"

I can't install my printer/scanner/copy machine in my windows xp pro edition. I have the Lexmark x1165 series. I tryed to install the drivers with windows wizard i can't event open that. I try with the company cd and i still get the error. the file spoolss.dll or spoolss.exe are there but i don't know if they are corrupt. I have a little home network at home with a switch.
Print Spooler is on automatic but when i start the service i get error 1068. I installed all the latest version of windows xp updates. There is nothing else on my computer that is giving me trouble.

    can someone help please?

    Windows xp pro
    Celeron 2.8ghz
    256mb ddr ram
    60 gig hard drive
    DVD burner
    onboard sound/video

    thanks Jubei.

I was searching, and found that the error you're getting has to do with tcp/ip, not your printer per se. Did you download new drivers from Lexmark? And since this is USB and XP, did you just install the software first before connecting printer to computer? The way it's usually done with xp install, software then hardware.

I started to install the software abd it told me that the spooler servide is not running please click ok to start the service and the setup will continue. I did so and nothing happend after i click on ok the setup disapears and the service is not on.

I used Google and it came up with the same answer but was related to windows NT 4.0. Basically it just says to go into Services and start RPC automatically.

Do you have the XP CD? If so, you can try something that might help called system file checker. It replaces missing files in xp. Put your XP cd in your drive, go to Start>Run and type sfc /scannow click ok, then let windows do it's thing. It will not tell you it has fixed anything but it does. Then try installing your software.

Go into msconfig (start>run.. type in msconfig and press <enter>)

Make sure "normal startup" is configured.. If it isn't, select it and click on apply and then okay.. You will need to reboot..

    Now try installing..

If you still get the error message, the problem could be caused by the Spooler Service not starting or has failed.

    To start the service...

    1) Go to the control panel,
    2) Open "Administrative Tools"
    3) Open Component Services
    4) Click on Services
    5) scroll to the "Print Services" and right click
    6) Select Properties
    7) Select the "Startup Type" as "Automatic
    8) Click the OK button to close the window
    9) close all windows and restart the computer
