The OS is XP Pro and I want to run dual monitors for extended desktop space. Main card is an ATI 3D RAGE IIC AGP and this is the one that the computer has been using. The BIOS is set for intial video to be the AGP and that part works. The card I want to install is an ATI 3D RAGE II+ PCI. The PCI card has a yellow exclaimation mark and says it can not start. I have tried different PCI slots to no avail. I also tried a S3 Virge/DX pci card and it done the same thing with the yellow exclaimation mark. What do I need to do?
Windows intalled the driver. When I go in to BIOS setup and choose for the intial video to be PCI then it works but the AGP card shows the yellow exclaimation mark and says it cannot start. Code 10.
I found this on the ATI website
"Rage I, Rage II/II+, Rage IIc and Rage PRO graphics adapters will not function as secondary display adapters in a Windows 2000 / XP environment."
Most cards these days, even cheap ones, come with dual outputs that will allow you to use dual monitors. Simply plug the secondary monitor into the VGI output using an adaptor (usually supplied withnthe card), and with WinXP it is simplicity itself to set up. Just right-click the Desktop, choose Properties and in the settings tab, click on the second monitor and check "Extend my Windows destop to this monitor". You can have completely independent resoultions and refresh rates if you wish.
It's a lot easier than messing around with 2 graphics cards.
