Does this sound like a bad power supply?
A couple of weeks ago I hit the power button on my PC and it didn't turn on. I cycled the switch on the power supply, then hit the power button and it came on. No problems right after that.
Then I moved, and I didn't hook up my PC for two weeks.
I hooked it up last night, tried to turn it on, it turned on for ~2s then turned off. I tried again, nothing. I cycled the power supply, kept trying, the best I could ever get it to do was run for 2s. I tried another wall socket to be sure, same thing?
Bad ps? It's an Antech, iirc it was high dollar (for a ps). If it's broke, I'll probably just buy a cheapo. It's for a 1GHz Athlon w/ 5 or 6 IDE devices.

How new is the psu? Could be power supply but it also could be the CMOS battery.

Try pushing the button and holding it in a couple extra seconds.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

You moved and did you pack the PC in such a manner that the mobo was on its back?
If not, then my first guess is something has come lose somewhere. Need to make sure everything is plugged in right.

I think I replaced the powed supply maybe 3-4yrs ago, the rest of the box is maybe 6mo older than the power supply.

I probably did. I think I laid it in the back seat of my car.

You probably did that? You really should check to make sure everything is tightly seated, and connected. Check the battery is still in place also.

No loose connectors that I could find. I popped out the CMOS battery and put it back in, I pushed in all the connectors, fan connectors, etc. I watched it, all the fans spin up like normal, then the PC shuts off at about 1 second.
If I turn the ps off for several seconds until it makes an electronic "squeek" noise (I assume it's capacitors discharging or something like that), then I can turn it back on and it will do it's 1s power-on thing again.
This seems to indicate to me that it's a bad power supply??

I CANT SEE HOW THE CMOS BATTERY Would have anything to do with it
i would only surmise its a bad power supply
it never stays on?

I agree, something is wrong in there.

Not sure about the "sqweek" sounds (PS shouldn't be squeeking), but that may also be a noise from the ps fan.
You can test the fundimental operation (ie. the voltage levels) of the PS. This could also be the motherboard gone bad too.
Please remember to post back whether your problem is resolved or
not, so that others may gain from the knowledge.

How? What should the voltages be, and on what connectors/pins? I have a cheapo multimeter, not sure what the current rating is.
Somebody recommend an affordable new power supply to push my Athlon 1GHz, two hard drives, two DVD drives, and a Zip drive.
