Hi Donlopez see if any of the articles posted here help at all.
looking at your other post you seem to be having problems on two machines so are they networked and do they have an upto date antivirus installed?

thanks for the quick reply. no the two machinces arent networked. they belong to two different friends of mine. all because i work in it they think i know it all. typical. mind u its a sight lot more than them
I'll have a look at those posts. the xp machine isnt here so i have to pass the info on to my friend.
as for the w98 machine...well ive been trying to use the boot up disk to re instal 98 without formating so not to lose the data but it wont recognise the cd drive (no drivers installed or sumthing) looked through help gave me some options im trying out. but cant find drivers for cd rom.
i'll let u kow how i get on

If computer refuses to shut down:
1. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
2. In control Panel, click 'Performance and Maintenance', then click 'Power Options'.
3. Click the APM tab.
4. Check to select the 'Enable Advanced Power Management Support' check box, and then click OK.
Then attempt to shut down again. The computer should shut down correctly
