USB cables
Is there any difference between USB2 and USB1 cables. If it is what?

Does it really matter? 2.0 cables work with 1.0 connections

USB is new(er). 1 has a bandwidth (if thats what its called) of 12 Mbps, while USB 2.0 is 480 Mbps. If all you use for USB is a keyboard, mouse or weak peripherals, dont bother with it. USB 2.0 is more for the higher demands such as external hard drives, CD/DVD burners, etc.
PS. USB 1 and 2 are backward compatible. Unfortunately, a 1.0 version USB will still run at its slower speed even if its put into a 2.0 port. A USB 2.0 device will plug into a 1 drive, but at the slower 12 Mbps speed

USB Cables
Thank you Pigboyonfire for your post. Spooky Man G are you saying in the PS. that a USB1 cable put in a USB2 port will only able to work with USB1 transfer speed? If the connectors have the same configuration and same number of wires why couldn't a USB1 cable carry 480 Mbps?

Yes, that is what I said. I dont know the specific reasons, other than upgrade. Can you have the same speeds on a PCI 28k modem as a PCI 56k modem? no, they are both PCI cards, right? doesnt mean they are the same

The/a usb cable will not prevent a usb 2.0 capable device from running as USB 2.0. It is when a usb 2.0 device is plugged in through a usb 1.0 port that the speed will revert to usb 1.0. In other words, you don't by default need any special cable for usb 2.0 support. The port and the device combination determine whether things run as usb 1.0 or 2.0, not the cable.
Please remember to post back whether your problem is resolved or
not, so that others may gain from the knowledge.

Howdy:
There is NO real difference in USB1 and USB2 cabling.. the difference is in the hardware they connect..
Quote from following website.. Please note the first sentence..
"Do USB 1.1 cables work with USB 2.0 devices?
Ideally, yes. USB 2.0 architecture uses the same cables and connectors as USB 1.1 compliant products. Unforunately, only 3 out of 11 cables on the market are certified as USB 1.1 compliant. You may run into the cables that cause problems connecting high-speed peripherals. To avoid negative user experience, most vendors include USB 2.0 compliant cables with their USB 2 PCI cards and peripherals."
