Talking HP 842c will not print in color

Some relatives of mine cannot not get their printer - HP 842C to print in color. This is what I did.

Downloaded XP driver from HP. No Luck.

    Changed Cartridge - No Luck.

Checked Configurations - No Luck. (I am not that familiar with XP or this printer. Some of the color settings (under the properties tab) did appear to be greyed out - - but maybe they are supposed to be).

Checked printer cable - No Luck.

The black color is excellent. Please ......... I'll take any suggestions.

Is the color cartridge new? If so and you probably did this, but I like to check the simple stuff first. did you remove the plastic tab from the bottom of the cartridge, the one they pack it with so it does not leak, also if you did remove it maybe part of it broke off and is still on there? The only other suggestion I can think of is to chek out HP's website and or re-install the printer from scratch and either let windows XP use it's driver or download a new one from HP and make sure it's the right one, after all that if it still does not print try taking a cotton swab with some rubbing alchohol on it and swab the color cartride and where it goes into the printer and also the sides where the contacts are. Other than all this all i can say is if it's new take it back, if not get a new one......Good Luck to ya........

    Thanks Rohrad

I did clean the bottom of the cartridge and I replaced a cartridge that I felt was at least 1/2 full.

Does anyone else have an idea..............?

Don't know if this will help or not, but I don't think it can hurt.
