    DVD / CDRW combo drive probs

    got a laptop, win xp, with a mat****a dvd/cdrw cw-8121 combo drive. last few days only been able to either:
    play dvd's or play music cd's.
    cannot:
    burn to a blank cdrom
    copy from a cdrom
    read any data cdroms (just bouth rise of nations and wont read the disc)

    Anyone got any ideas? is it a hardware issue or software issue??

    Have you looked in Device Manager (Windows key + Pause/Break)? See if there are any yellow splats next to the drive, and if there are post back with the error message.

    dvd probs

    Hi

    Yeah tried all that, reinstalled it and everything there are no conflicts and according to device manager no probs with the drive!
    It plays dvd no probs, even music cd's but thats it wont read data cds or copy from or burn to.
