mirror setting
hi there
how can I configure my partition in order to do a mirror ( then we can save data if disk goes bad) configuration on a compaq prolian 1600 box with two SCSI disk. the installation will be in windows 2000 server family and it isn't going to be a primary controller. it will be a storage server and spooling printer jobs.
thanks

You configure a mirror in Disk Management. Right click on 'My Computer' and select Manage. The help screens can walk you through the process.

You mirror drives, not partitions. You need two physical drives.

Hi!
You can do software-based mirroring within Winows2000 using the Disk Management snap-in (as found in the Computer Management administrative tool). You need to convert both physical discs to Dynamic Discs first (a one-way process that will stop them from being accessible from under Windows9x).
Then you can mirror existing volumes (volumes are the dynamic disc equivalent of partitions) or create a new mirrored volume from scratch.
You need two phsical discs to make a mirror but you need not mirror the entire drive - just an equal sized portion of each disc.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Doesn’t the Compaq proliant 1600 have hardware RAID on the mother board???
