windows XP home edition is not working on domains. Perhaps you changed something and is it looking for a domain now.

This explains why you have to enter ctrl+alt+del at startup.

You can logon to the pc?

    Check this url http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...p_log_peyn.asp

perhaps it helps solving your problem.

    Succes!

do I understand right that when you want to restart, or close programs from ctrl Alt Del, it does not work under windows XP?
It this is correct, I have the same problem and have been wondering why this should be? The first reply you got seems to implicate something else (i.e. link). Sorry that I dont have an answer, Noid

Control+Alt+Delete is Taskman.exe. If you got that file, click on it and it reinstall. If you do not have it, then WinXP does not offer it. I have Win98, so would not know.

    Welcome to Virtual Dr., ilovetoys!!

ctrl + alt + del works in my Windows XP HE. Maybe you need to do a restore to the point where it did work.

If you right click on the Taskbar and select Task Manager, you will get the same window that open when you press Ctrl Alt Delete.

If you are on a Network at your place or job, that options may have been removed by the IT staff. It can be reenabled in the Registry.

Thanks for the reply. Went to run, did regedit.exe. When I tried going to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" as referred in the link you gave me, the only thing that wasnt there, was the "winlogon" file. All the other ones are.
Normally I can logon to the pc, but it has the administration logon
screen, instead of having all the other names of people that use this computer.
Sorry it took so long for me to reply, had to work a 12 hour yesterday. lol Thanks for the reply. Any other suggestions?

    Hi Noid,
Neither when I try to restart computer, or close programs, the ctrl alt del doesnt work. Really frustrating. I've even tried system restore, but no luck either. Not sure whats going on with this thing. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Jim for your help. Searched for the taskman.exe file. Found it, but when I went to "reinstall" it, nothing happened. It showed up on my computer 4 different times: c: windows, c: windows\system32, c:\windows\prefetch, twice.

Hi Jenae, thanks for replying. Went to the site you posted, tried following steps in order, and only made it to step 2. LOL Maybe I need more sleep. When I go to start, control panel, user accounts, I dont get the option of the "advanced" tab.

Get your Windows CD handy, and go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. That'll replace any damaged or missing system files.
