    Uninstall XP Pro ??

    Hi,
I wish to go back to W98, how do I uninstall XP Pro please ? The only reason I'm doing this is my scanner, keyboard, 3d games & dvd films won't run. I have an old Gateway G6 Pll 300 and the main problem is no driver for my video card. (Chromatics Mpact went bust before ME was released)
    Thanks

    Ok, I'm stuck,
Read the MS KB articles and I want to reformat the hd but can't figure out how to do that, I have to boot from my W98 cd as I have an LS120 drive which the computer doesn't "see" as a floppy. I don't get a "prompt" to type fdisk.
    Thanks,

    Hi papillon,

One approach would be to borrow a 3 1/2" floppy drive long enough to boot to an A:> and set the hard drive up. (Or temporarily take one out of another machine, if you have one.)

You should be able to go into your BIOS and set it to boot the LS120. I did. But, if you can not try Limerick's approach.

Also, if you had XP installed in NTFS you will need something like DELPART to remove the NT partitions as fdisk can not deal with NT. It works on linux partitions too.

I brought this up at another forum and they said that FDISK will indeed delete that NTFS partician..I think they said that you select to delete non DOS partician for this? Can you confirm this? Thanks.

Yes, the fdisk will indeed delete the NTFS partitions. You will need to select the non-DOS parm and then you are on your way. I have heard this before that fdisk is not supposed to be able to do it, but I know from experience that it does work.
After that you will be able to insert the CD into the drive and reboot from it. The formatting will be done for you at that time.

Hopefully this is of some benefit to you..

Thanks Limerick, Train effbros & Ecrosson,
I kept FAT32 when I installed XP. I'm afraid I don't know how to make my LS120 appear as a floppy to Windows, but from the last 2 posts, it sounds as if I can Fdisk somehow and then boot from my W98 cd. If I read them right, how can I do that please.
Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it.
    Still feeling very dim................

    Hi All,
In desperation, I just installed W98 over the top of XP and from there was able to get a C:\> and fdisk, scratched the drive and did a clean install and Bob's Your Uncle. Not sure if it was the right way to do it, but it's worked.
Thanks again to everyone for the support,

I have not seen that [select the non-DOS parm] available since using DOS 6.22
