    user broke AT keyboard connector.

    User broke the AT connection on the motherboard by jamming a keyboard too hard into the back. My question is will fitting a USB keyboard bypass the initial error screen in MS-DOS stating there is no keyboard attached? I don't want the user wasting money on buying a PCI USB card and a USB Keyboard. thanks

    Some CMOS/BIOS Setups have an option to disable the keyboard check.

    If the motherboard does not have built-in USB support, then chances are the BIOS will not recognize a USB keyboard. One possible el-cheapo solution would be to replace the PS/2 keyboard connector on the motherboard with a similar one from a dead motherboard. You'd have to be extra careful when de-soldering and soldering however. Otherwise, it may be new motherboard time.
