Long Pause On Startup
I installed 2k on a friends machine. It has a new motherboard MSI 694T pro
Via 694 X chipset.
WD 40 Gig harddrive.
ATI Video Card.
I just put this machine together.
When It boots up at the startup screen it will scroll across and get about halfway and it will take a long time to get past this. When I go into the event viewer it shows this Error.
The Device, \Device\Ide\Ide\Ide Port 0, did not respond within the timeout period.
Whats strange is when you shut the machine off for an extended time it will do this. If you shut it down and boot back up say within 10 minutes it will not do this. Nor will it do it on a restart.
I also got the blue screen at the end of one of these sessions that it was an Inacessible boot device. I went by the MB makers instructions and loaded the drivers for it before I loaded any other third party drivers. Also recommended that SP3 for 2K be loaded first before I loaded drivers for MB. Which I did. The drive came out of another machine. It was fdisked and formated before install of 2K. Is it trying to boot a drive that is not hooked up? Any help would be very welcome.

Since it is continously referring to the HDD,
Try another ATA 66/100/133 cable,
Double check the jumper settings on the HDD,
Check the Western Digital with the manufacturers' utility.
Check the memory module(s) as well, since defective memory could be slowly corrupting the HDD.
