    Making domain user admin of local machine

    Can anyone tell me how to give a domain user admin priviledges on his local machine (XP/Pro)? We have recently implemented the domain controller, but previously the users logged into their machine as the default (admin) local account and had full rights to the hard drive. Now, they are logging in using their domain account and there are things that don't run properly or they can't access. I would like for them to be able to have full rights to the entire drive.

    Control Panel->Users->Select this user->Change Account type

    Steve, are you sure about that one? If the user is logging into a domain, the local users are not used, right? As near as I can tell, your method will allow local group account types to be changed.

    Anyway, the way I do it. Right click on MY computer and click MANAGE, go to Local users and groups; click Groups, Double-click Administrators. Click ADD (by default, if you are logging into a domain, the location will = your domain name. Type in the user name and choose 'check names' (unless you feel lucky). Click OK. You must be logged on as domain admin or equivalent to do this.

    You can also go into the user management on the local PC's and add the 'Domain Users' group from your domain to the Administrators group on the local PC. This way, anyone who logs into the PC will have admin priviledges.

    Thank you so much for all the feedback. I was able to give the domain user admin privs using the user control panel, by adding the domain user account as a local account with admin privs. Didn't know I could do that! On the user list, it shows the user name and domain as the DC. So, this just gives them local admin privs, right? It does not give them admin privs on the entire domain? (Scary!)

    Also, I would really like to try flachebag's method for giving anyone who logs in local admin privs, if I understand how to do it correctly! =) I will try it. We need this on some of our machines.
