I use Firefox 1.0.7. I want to change a setting under the control panel/java/advanced/<applet> tag support section. Right now I only have explorer box checked. When I went to check the other box, which is, mozilla and netscape box, a browser warning message box popped up stating: unable to change browser settings - Please check if firefox and netscape are properly installed on the system and/or that you have sufficient permissions to change system settings.

Why did this message pop up? I use win 2k pro. I don't windows configured to have only a specific user make changes to system. How can I bypass this message so I am able to check the mozilla and netscape box in the <applet> tag support section?

Hi, Professor U. How can I check to see if I am logged in as administrator? I makes changes on my system within windows all the time and I never have to log into anywhere first prior to making the changes.

Go to Start|Run|type: "control userpasswords2" (Without the quotes but with the space) and if it says Administrator next to your name in the list then you have admin rights.

This is exactly what I typed in the run box:

user passwords2

I typed without quotes like you said.

It would have needed to be "control userpasswords2", however that is an XP command only. In Win2000, go to Control Panel>Users & Passwords, and in the Users tab you should see your username listed. It needs to be in the Administrators group (you can change it there by clicking on Properties if it isn't).

I user name is listed under users and passwords as administrative. So, why is it giving me warning message and it won't allow me to make this change?

Being in the administrator's group isn't always the same as being the ADMINISTRATOR
you should have a password for the username 'administrator'. Log in with that username and password.

Is there a reason you're using such an old version of Firefox?

I never had to log into my system to make any type of change within windows. Why would I have to log in now?
Also, what is the current version of firefox? I wasn't aware of a more current version.

I am going to upgrade my firefox to the current version. Which way would be best? Upgrade from the existing current version I am using or uninstall my old version and then do a fresh new install of current version?

If I do a uninstall of existing version and then a fresh install of most recent version without loosing any of my bookmarks and extensions that I currently am using with my firefox, what folders should I save first before uninstalling old version? Any other settings that I should save also, besides my bookmarks and extensions? Any help would be appreciated.

Reason I want to do a unistall of current version and then a fresh install of most recent version is that I think my current version may have issues. For example, when I go to bookmarks/manage bookmarks, highlight a bookmark and try to click delete, the bookmark still remains. Is that the proper way to delete a bookmark?

So, any help in which info/folders I should save before unistalling current version so I don't loose any of my info/settings/updates etc.?
