    An US power supply will vaporise if plugged into a UK mains supply.
    US mains voltage = 115v, UK = 240v.

    Get the disk drive manufacturers diagnostics.
    Run their low level formatting utility, that is the only way you can fully clean your drive.
    Once done you can install your operating system as normal.
