The built-in version of Pepperflash in Chrome49 is outdated. You would have had to disable the built-in Flash and installed Adobe Flash.
It's getting close to 3 years since Microsoft dropped XP...

That's not what I said. Google discontinued XP support as of Chrome 50. You could still use Chrome 49 with the built-in Pepperflash. The plugin version of Adobe Flash would be the same for both...

I'd still like to get confirmation if this system is the same XP system that had problems. If so, it's futile to work on software problems right now....

Are you sure you have the correct installer? IE and Firefox use different Flash installers.

How did you try to update Flash? Did you download the actual installer from Adobe? Or were you prompted by a website? There are a LOT of false Flash error messages.
