The HP Recovery program warns you that it will erase all data on the hard drive. It has to inorder to put the system bacl to an "out of the box" state.

I have an 80 gig drive partitioned in half. 98 & XP. WIn 2k has the 32 gig limit.
Updated FDISK will show the full capacity of the drive...

If you have that many *.chk files its time to format!
I have seen drives get scrambled for no apparent reason.
Power outage possibly?
Test the drive with the manufacturers diagnostic utility

The problem with the posters question is 98 does not use NTFS.
It wont even see an NTFS partition. FAT32 if 98
Poster indicated 98 in the heading so, I amssuming that is the OS.

Ended up formatting this beast, even though I did not want to!
When you run 15 or 20 scans and it keeps finding things you basically have no other choice
Needless to say, the system works better...

I did exactly what everyone said.
I uninstalled AVG, rebooted and reinstalled it with run as admin rights.
Same problem
This is the only computer that I have seen this issue with. All others...
