The Windows driver might work, if you were not trying to connect using the wireless (using a USB cable), but even then the HP drivers are the way to go.

If you didn't install HP's driver software, Windows will use its built-in drivers (if it has any) for the make and model of printer. Those drivers rarely work well. Also, HP's drivers these days...

If the driver did not install automatically, you may need to install it. What model HP printer is it?
