I just responded with what worked for me. Whatever Windows update it was screwed up the audio drivers somehow. A reinstall of the newest ones from the manufacturer fixed it for me.

This happened to me a while back with a Windows update. I had to go to the manufacturer's site and download/install the latest drivers for my sound-card to fix the situation.
