Just delete the Msconfig key in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
before you restart.
Added DeleteMsconfigKey.txt to do that.
Rename to DeleteMsconfigKey.reg and...

See if this freeware utility Add/Remove Pro can uninstall the program.
It is more detailed and has more possiblities then the Windows Add/Remove.

You can't do a system restore from the recovery console, but it can be done in Safe mode by using Command Prompt.
Reboot the computer and press F8 during startup.
Choose Safe Mode with a command...

How big is the unpartitioned space? Can it hold Windows?
You might be able to install windows on the unpartitioned space and save your data.
Does it ever ask you in wich folder you want Windows...

Sorry Jim, I overlooked your post.
In IE7 (using XP) I have the option to set OE, WLM or Opera as email client.
Vista should have the same options in IE7.

Did you check in Internet Options if Windows Live Mail is selected as email client?
(Start > Settings > Internetoptions | tab Programs)
You probably already did, just to make sure...

PageDefrag does defragment the hiberfil.sys file as well as the pagefile.sys.
(Pagedefrag is just an executable, no setup and free)

If other CD's can be read on this computer but only the Fear CD not, I suspect the CD is dirty. Some CD/DVD players can be more fuzzy then others.
Try cleaning it carefully.

Try this first, go to Start | Settings | Power options
From there you can (re)set the appropriate settings.
If that doesn't work, check if ACPI is turned on.

According to Microsoft Windows 2000 can be updated to XP Pro.
They don't mention OEM or retail.

I never use 'Compress Old Files' and found a way to disable it in the registry.
It takes a lot of time before Disk Cleanup has calculated which files to compress.

The pagefile holds data from the past Windows work sessions, word processing, E-Mail messages, Internet browsing activity, database entries and whatnot.
Old entries will be replaced by new entries...

ialmdnt5.dll is a file for Intel Graphics Accelerator.
Your best bet is to reinstall the drivers for this card.
If you have the cd that came with the motherboard/pc you should use that.
