Nope, I don't think so. Network controller would be a wifi or Ethernet adapter. The Ethernet is already installed.
But of course, you'd want to install the chipset drivers anyway.

You still didn't say if you have 32 or 64 bit Windows 8. That makes a difference.

That's not the model number. It would be more like Inspiron 15R 5537. Details help.
What OS did the laptop come with and which OS are you trying to install? It sounds like you are trying to change...
