Are you installing this 256er alongside any other memory? Somtimes 2 different DIMMS will not work next to each other is one is say 100mhz SDRAM and the other 133Mhz.

I agree, it does sound like a driver problem & the machine updated both the graphics dirver and sound driver from windowsupdate - but it still does it!
