I echo the sentiments of all who have posted. Big John was a great guy who was liked and respected by all at VDr. He will be sorely missed.
My sincere condolences to you and all the family,...

Download Find-Qoologic. Click on Qoologic.bat after unzipping and wait for the log.
Post the log in your reply.

Hi ^dAvEy^...startups are clean. There's a BHO that I think is part of RealNetwork's "NetZip Download Demon" - NZDD.DLL - but that shouldn't be a problem. The Regedit error listed in the Startlist...

Just fired up my Win95 box to check. You should find the values at:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\IconCache
And the options are:
Huge (8192)
Large (4096)...

Hi Ridge...there's a registry tweak to add the extra options that's been doing the rounds for a while. I think it's called MaxCachedIcon or similar. It's well over a year since I added that option...

I thought that would be too much to ask for, but it seems the Gods were smiling on us. :)
Well amarok-sookgah...that was fun, wasn't it? Glad you got it fixed. :)
Time for my morning cuppa...

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Well, yes...these will be remnants of the infection. Not really important at the moment (if they're even there).

markp62...no offense to either you or amarok-sookgah, but we're dealing with someone who is inexperienced. It seems inappropriate to introduce DOS when Safe Mode is available.

OK...we're getting there. In Safe Mode, do a Find Files for wsock32.dll and delete ALL that are found (if any). Then use SFC to extract the file from the CAB folder to C:\Windows\System.
There's...

Posting at the same time - God, my head is spinning. I like the nuke-it-in-three-posts approach, but we seem to be going round in circles.
OK...the good news is that it appears you have the CAB...

Very difficult to make a call on this, aside from SirCam that is (which I assume is now gone). My stab in the dark would be W95/MTX.gen - although it could be any number of Winsock file infectors. ...

Hi amarok-sookgah...some computers have all the Windows files stored in a compressed (CAB) folder on the drive - usually located at C:\Windows\Options\Cabs. Others do not - the CAB files are on the...

I'll have to pass on that one, Persian.
That Nvcore.vxd is an nVidia driver. According to Google, you appear to be the only person in the world getting that error message. Try updating the...

Back to the fray!
I gave 24 a shot, and have been trying to follow it since, but I think I lost the plot in the first episode. It airs at 22.30 here. I'll wait for the DVD. :D

Just time for a quick reply. Are you at the boot menu where it has the options for Safe Mode, Command Prompt Only etc.? If not, try again by rebooting and holding down the Ctrl key as the system...

"On last week's episode of 24..." That would be a bit daft, wouldn't it?
Hi Phil - what's with the "infamous" bit? :D
Long time since we ran tag like this - last time was at NoWonder!

OK, Persian, we'll wait for your reply. Post the VXD error message as well, as drivers are in the mix here somewhere. You might try making a bootlog.txt file and posting it so we can see if there...
