Yea seems that is was the controller on the HDD. I cloned the info to another drive and installed and all is well.

Ok tried another HDD with the case closed and it booted recognized and booted to the HDD just fine. In the mean time I took the liberty of removing the connector board from the troublesome HDD...

The only thing I can come up with is that there may be a bad connector on the HDD itself. It seems to work best with no pressure or stress in the cabling. I tried removing the HDD from the mounting...

So just for the halibut I used electrical tape and taped the connectors tight to the HDD. Yea.....still no go, unless the case is open.
Gonna have to sleep on this one for certain.

Ok when I type fixbooot the computer is telling me that the bootsector is on D which is the recovery partition.....

You may have something with the cd vs dvd comment...didn't really consider that.
