I always find it in good practice to apply just a smidge of goop that looks like a grain of rice right in the middle, then with a careful ease apply it with just a little force as to spread it out....

Not a whole lot of difference when you are considering battery life in a notebook, and with the systems they put out today I don't think it's worth it.

That command didn't help anything- it did its lengthy check and then just closed itself without any alerts or dialogues of any kind. I was able to get the drivers going through Windows Update again...
