Yes, nice find! :) That does seem to be the same issue that I referred to about Windows 10. Strange because you'd think a purchased game with discs would not have such security issues.
I ran...

Will try that - thanks for the fast reply both of you. They pushed out like 20 updates yesterday so hard to tell which one was the culprit but only way to know is one by one

I have Flight Sim 2004 and Grand Theft Auto III purchased as disc games. Ever since the update yesterday (Sept 8), I have not been able to play either one. Used to be just double-clicking on the...

I found Win 8 to be surprisingly better than expected after reading so many people bashing it. Found it to be snappier than Win 7 (though I like Win 7) and the graphics are more readable. My...

I would personally not attempt such a thing. Li-ion batteries can catch fire if things are not done just right. It's dangerous and can also ruin your laptop if not done correctly - costing you much...

I don't know if more expensive flash drives have better components or something that would allow more writes. I know when I messed with ubuntu on a flash drive, it did get warm too, and the LED...

I thought I read somewhere that flash drives are not good for excessive writes as you suspect. External SSDs might be better although they are more expensive. Same with external portable hard...

Cool! Yes, if you use the pendrive on different machines I guess you can't install Linux on it because that would be hardware specific.
Can't remember about Synaptics but I think application...

You mentioned in your original post that you included persistence in your original ubuntu setup. That should allow the settings (if you find them to keep the HD unmounted by default) to be saved so...

I've been playing around with a similar setup. When installing Linux on the flash drive, I unplugged the hard drive from the mobo before installing from the Live CD to prevent any accidental...

I just tested mine, and yeah, the Custom Settings options stays put after reboot or restarting Firefox. I wonder if it changes when Firefox updates?

I don't have much experience in this except to be doing regular Win7 system image backups. But yes, in this case it sure seemed like not having a matching drive capacity was giving errors. It just...

All fixed now! :) Returned the 500 GB drive and got a 1 TB drive to match what was in there. And Windows System Restore didn't bat an eye! Took a while, but in the end my computer was up & running!...

Good catch - I didn't realize that was the error code. Thing is, I didn't have any USB disks attached to the computer when trying to do the reimage, so I wasn't sure what it was complaining about. ...

jdc2000: That's what I would have thought too but people were saying it's a little temperamental that way. But not sure if that is even the problem or something else. I'm using the built-in...

Okay, so got a new drive and installed it. I was able to get to the point where the Repair CD wanted to restore image from hard drive. I plugged in my external portable drive, it found the image,...

Well, a bit of a breakthrough here. I opened up the case and disconnect the hard drive. Booted up again with the System Repair CD. And this time it smoothly got right to the Repair or Image...

Thanks - will look into that. I'm still a bit confused as to why even the System Repair CD was not able to load. This is the CD I created the first time I did a System Image backup. Theoretically,...

The hard drive is showing P0-WDC WD/0 EADS - I think that's Western Digital. I used Ultimate Bood CD 4.1 that I had lying around but it wasn't able to really diagnose anything. Had 2 WD diagnostic...

Thanks - I will try that from a spare computer. What is odd is that if something was wrong with the hard drive, how come even the System Restore CD would not get to the restore screen? After...

Been a while since I've done this but I thought most now automatically look up CDDB for the track info and saves the file accordingly. I think I've been able to do this with Jet Audio, Nero, and...

No sweat - thanks for trying to look up! :) Is there a specific detail you were looking for? i.e., some parameter other than the standard size, resolution, etc.?
