After a bit of searching, it looks like Windows 8 assigns these strange user names with " _000." Looks like I'm going to have to find some clear cut instructions of changing that without muddling my...

OK. So, through the Control Panel, I've logged on to my online account and am in the Edit Name section. It's asking me for a first and last name. I don't want to get into trouble here. What if I...

There's even a User folder on my Desktop titled csonn_0000 with all sorts of User folders inside (Contacts, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, etc.) Not sure how that was created. In fact, I see other...

Yes, that's the way I changed the name. But I'm referring to my user name used in logging off. It listed as csonn_0000. The only user name I can think of is my email address used in creating my...

Yes. I toggled it so the AHCI turned green. Then I got the warning that my system might not start up. I just pushed F12 and I am now downloading updates.

I'm in the BIOS but I can't seem to select AHCI. When I hit Return, ATA just goes from plain to green and back again. It says the factory default is ATA.

OK. Let me get this straight. I can go into the BIOS and do that before I format the drive? And then I would boot from Windows 8 DVD and format then? And then reinstall?

I may have to reinstall. As far as upgrade goes, it appears MS found a defect in Activating clean installs which was corrected in 8.1
Is there a way to enable AHCI without reinstalling?
I see...

Bummer. I went to activate Windows and found out that the disk I purchased is only meant for upgrades. Not happy. I'm going to have to contact the seller and complain with PayPal.

I've been reading up a bit on how to prepare an SSD for Windows. One place says I should enable AHCI before even installing Windows through the BIOS. Obviously, that's a bit late. Also, enabling...

I got to the Drive Partition and wasn't given any formatting options, so I just clicked Format. I assume that will be NTSC.

I'm rebooting and going to go through the Install. I think I got side-tracked on that last procedure.

I'm not into Advance Options with System Restore, System Image Recovery, Automatic Repair and Command Prompt. Not sure which one to choose to format the drive.

I went into Reset Your PC. It told me that a required drive partition is missing, with only Cancel to click.

The only option for Language to Install is English (United Kingdom). I find that strange.

Got the Windows 8 disk booting now. So far so good. How long does it take to get past the stationary blue Windows logo? What will come up for me to format the drive in NTSC? Ok. I now got the...

I just got the Dell splash screen and tapped F@ which brought up the System settings. So, can I format the drive here? And then, how to I change the boot order?

Actually, I could re-install the drive I removed with Windows 7 on it, put my FAT SSD into my drive bay which is replacing my optical bay and format it there. But how do I get past the flashing...

I need to boot of the Windows DVD in order to do that. I formatted it to FAT on my Mac so the Dell would at least recognize it. How would I get past the flashing hyphen in order to format it? And...
