Thanks for your reply, and sorry if I didn't explain clearly.
On my 'sick' PC, I have it set up to boot from CD. It was trying to boot from the UBCD, but it kept throwing up linux error messages....

ComboFix warns me that NOD32's real-time scanner is still running - even though I have disabled NOD32 via the GUI. Task Manager shows that ekrn.exe is still running, and it's impossible to close it....
