Ensure show hidden and system files and folders is enabled and then do a search for a folder called;
applog
now delete it.
Now reboot to desktop and then press control+Alt+delete and shut down...

Find the hidden folder called "recycled". On windows 98se it is C:\recycled. (this file is the recycle bin).
Bring up a MS-DOS prompt and type;
deltree C:\recycled\*.*
now hit enter and confirm...

Yes, it is much better to keep the registry clean, and also run System File checker, before and after every install/uninstall.
That way you do not leave neither junk files *.dll`s, etc nor entries...
