More time worked, windows is now fully updated but there is one problem, when I shut down or restart it hangs and shows that it can't shut down as there is still programs running in the background...

Windows update still continually checking for updates even when left for an hour.:(

Done a couple of updates which got win update to find a couple of hundred updates but downloading just stuck on 0% .
So I just shut down and it said it was installing the 200 updates before shutting...

Updated to IE 11 but windows update still wont update although I'm now able to post this reply on the Sony Vaio pc ,what can I do to get windows to start updating.

Firstly I didn't update Google Chrome as I always use ordinary Google, but if I have to use it let me know.
