I've been using W98 since 1999, and it still gets the job done for me. Unfortunately, it's slowly being left in the dust as support for it is dwindling more and more with each passing month.

Did the screen go black after you checked the Standby radio button and then clicked OK?
If so, did you try to bring the display back by either pressing any key, or by moving the mouse?
