Mine is working fine now, thanks to Welshjim. I removed the download and then went into Control Panal>Automatic Updates and then checked 'Notify me but don't automatically download or install them'....

Thanks a lot Jim for putting my mind at rest. I've unchecked automatic updates for the time being and replaced with 'Notify' because it keeps coming back and at least then I can stop it downloading....

The crackle is only coming from one speaker, the one with the volume control. I thought it might be a loose connection or dry joints but it's a sealed unit so if that's the case then it's a new set...
