I believe the makers of Winrar gave away version 3.51. Not upgradeable but a free version none the less. Not sure of the details. Check their website or the newsgroup alt.comp.freeware.

I use Treepad Lite which is an information collector. Great for keeping stuff you otherwise would forget (links, stuff about software, etc.). I guess if you have to classify it, it's a database.

discogail mentioned a clipboard cashe program called Clipomatic; I used another one called Cliptrak
but....

2xExplorer beats PowerDesk and Windows Explorer IMHO.
Belarc Adviser, WinMe defrag and Utlimate Zip (all mentioned earlier) are all great tools, too!
All the ones I've mentioned are freeware....
