Sounds like problems coming out of sleep mode.
Are you running Win 7 ?
Try enabling usb keyboard in bios, it's sometimes off by default....Don't know why it works, but sometimes does.

It's been a long time since I've run Debian...
In a terminal....
sudo apt-get install libfuse2
The program manager should take care of the dependencies automatically.

Yes, make sure the workgroup name is the same on both machines.
Also, IP addresses must be different but in the same network. Such as #1 192.138.1.1, and #2 192.168.1.2.

Good point, I didn't even think of using a separate controller card....I may even have one in a box somewhere.....
