I have Toshiba 2100. Has no USB ports.
I currently have a 56K modem installed and dial-up service. How can I convert it or update it so that I can use DSL or wireless?
What type of apparatus/devices do I need and how much will it cost. It has 6gig HD space, but I would only use it for internet.

Does it have a RJ45 Ethernet Port or a PCMCIA slot?
It has one PC slot. The specs state there's a USB port, but I can't see one that's visible.Quote:

on the left hand side there is a slot. On the right hand side, there's a CD ROM, no PC card slot. I see a floppy opening in the front.
Do I need the linksys software for the PC card wireless device? thanks, I'll order it right now, hope it works!
Also, should I keep this laptop charged? like my cell phone, keep it plugged in?

Not that I know of. I just bought this laptop about 2 years ago and never ever used it. I'm just getting around to traveling with it.
The PC card is empty, nothing in it.
I have a PCMCIA modem/network card I used on my last laptop for connecting to the network I cant find it right now Im in the middle of packing.I think it is a type III if memory serves but you should be able to get one relativly cheap.
Something similar to this Xircom RealPort Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56 Network / Modem Combo (XEM5600) at under $20 or you can get just the network PCMCIA card without the modem.
How do I know if it's a PCI-II-III?
Or are they all the same? This is my first time with a laptop.

You can purchase High-speed Internet service (broadband) from your local telephone (for DSL) or cable company. For the wireless router, I'd recommend the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster.
For the wireless adapter for your notebook, I'd recommend the Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster
Note: With this router you could also keep up to four desktop computers 'wired', and at the same time use its 'wireless' function for your laptop(s).

This is too advance for me. Anyway, It don't have ethernet card; no USB port; no RJ45 connection for ethernet cable connection.
If the PC card will make it wireless I'll go ahead and buy it.I just need to know what do I need internally to make this thing wireless? Is the PC card enough? Thanks much.
I have a telephone cable /retractable laptop cord that will connect to the modem on the side.
You can purchase an Ethernet card (with RJ45 jack) that plugs into your PC Card slot.
You can also purchase a Wireless Ethernet card that plugs into your PC Card slot.
There is a wide range of various products available that plug into a PC Card slot. And, almost all laptops have a PC (PCMCIA) Card slot.
