mp3 drive size problem

i had a problem with my mp3 player a few days ago

i deleted all of the files and was going to start again when i checked the drive properties. the mp3 player was totally empty. i even checked for hidden files. but the drive properties said that it was half full already. this was not hapenning yesterday. what has happenned?
i have utilities to format the drive but i dont want to ruin the ability to actually play the music that i store on the mp3 player. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Personally I would not have started a new thread for this as it is linked to your original issue I would say.

So in explorer it shows no files or folders and no hidden files but the properties show it as being half full / half empty.

Try running scandisk on it as maybe the FS Info Sector is corrupt and mis-repoting the free space.

Are you using compression on the drive?

i have already run scandisk which reported no problems. i have also tried defragging the drive but as it has nothing on it, it shows as not needing defragging. there is actually 1 hidden file. an xml document. i didnt think this was important but you never know. it says:

sure this means nothing but im willing to try anything.

What brand of MP3 player is it ?

this is a good question. it doesnt actually say anywhere on the mp3 player or the packaging. damn e-bay. i spent ages trying to find the name through windows device properties and everest home program but eventually found it on the utilities cd that came with the player. 's1 mp3 player'. after googling for this i found a forum for the player. one of the main subjects is 'the memory problem'. so it appears that lots of people are having the problem with this particular player. and nobody knows what to do. great.

i tried to format the player which worked ok. new problem though. before the memory was displayed as 1gb total with 512 mb used. this was when the player was empty. after formatting, the player now reads 0mb used, 498mb total.

should i look for a high building to throw it off yet or is there any hope?
