network place computers often appear and disappear. please help me out how to resolve.
Additional information is needed.
What version(s) of Windows are on the various computers?
How are the various computers connected to the network - wired or wireless connections?
Are they all connected to the same router or switch?
That information is helpful. Assuming that the computers are not disappearing from Network Places simply because they are turned off, we now have some additional questions:
Are the computers that experience this issue only the workgroup computers?
Are you attempting to access the domain computers from the workgroup computers?
Are you attempting to access the workgroup computers from the domain computers?
Normally, if you want to share files between computers over the network, the computers are either all on a domain or they are all on a workgroup.
yes we are facing this issue where workgroup computers
yes vice versa ..... domain users are facing issue when try to open network places computers appear and disappears randomly and work group users same facing issue access the domain computers
What happens if you create a mapped drive on one computer that connects to another? Does it still work and provide access even when that computer that the mapped drive connects to disappears from Network Places?
yes sir we have mapped some driver which comes red cross mark appear after it takes some time will appear again
If the mapped drive is showing a red X, try a ping of the IP address for that PC. If all packets are lost, I would suspect you have a hardware problem, possibility with the network switch. You would want to also look at the activity lights on the switch to check for a connection and activity. If you have a spare switch, you should try swapping out the one on the network segment you are having issues with.
If a ping to the IP address of the computer that shows an X in Network Places works, what happens if you enter the IP address of that computer into a Windows Explorer window? Can you connect to the computer using that method?
Example - If you double click on Computer, you would enter the string below into the drop-down box that says "Computer" to access the folders on the networked computer:
For a Workgroup computer (replace the 192.168.0.xxx with the actual IP address of the computer):
\\192.168.0.xxx
