Bought a laptop last week for my neighbor and Best Buy and Future Shop sent back all their laptops with windows 7 on before Xmas and all they have is windows 8..
what a night mare to navigate I have had to Google and you tube simple searches such as 'Find desktop' f'ind control panel' etc ..
The whole thing of missing the start key is stupid .. and it now takes up to four strokes to close down the program ..
Do you Hate or Love Windows 8 on a desktop / Laptop ??
Win 8 seems fine for those folks who play with phones. Internet and stuff like that.
Me, Win 7 because a phone is for talking not internet usage.
And if you were to read the old post in win8, there are a number who do not like it and others have posted how to get the Start button back.
Still using Windows XP and Windows 7.
Tested Windows 8 and did not care for it's gui and hardware compatibility issue(s).
Windows 8 is more of a smartphone/tablet OS designed for those that consume. If you create, stick with Windows 7.
Exactly Stick with Windows 7 .. but my point is for the masses who buy a new PC these days they would be stuck with windows 8 - unless they pay for and install windows 7 before delivery or after delivery and would they or could they transfer over their old license for windows 7 on their new PC ? I'm just stating that the complaints will be and should be mile high .Quote:

Have Windows 8 on desktop and laptops and cell; we like it. We also have Win 7 and Linux on desktops and net book; like them too. Also have Blackberries and Android phones.
8 is great.
I have used all versions since win 3.2.
Start buttons are obsolete
8 is the future and heading in the right direction.
To me, the Windows 8 user interface looks like it was designed for:

Unless you have a touchscreen, it's hard to justify the jump to Win8.
Try googling for "starting Win8 in desktop mode" and similar topics. There are a lot of people that want to make Win8 act like Win7.
Yeah; other than my son who has a Win 8 phone, and a Win 8 laptop/tablet, we all start in desktop mode. I like Win 8 as it seems like a quicker Win 7 of course imo only. Others opinions definitely vary.Quote:

Further, to play DVDs one must have also a new player installed, but there are enough good and free ones.
All in all, after having played with Win 8, I am no longer so reluctant to use it. However, I think, MS has not yet got it right, and they must make significant changes to convince the average user that Win 8 is worthwhile to install and use. It seems that the selling numbers of Win 8 are even worse than for VISTA (was a total disaster), so someone in the MS higher management has to wake up and do something to increase the acceptance of Win 8 soon, especially Mr. Balmer. He seems to be pretty ignorant to is customer base, and he is pretty arrogant as the leader of a major IT company. Remember, if you can't deliver, someone else can!
Going to agree with you; you can find and open things much quicker in Win 8 than Win 7 without a start button. I originally installed one on Win 8 but removed it once I found it really isn't necessary.Quote:
