What is MSXML4 Parser?
Hi.
I was just removing programs from my hard drive and I noticed something in my Add/Remove Programs list called MSXML4 Parser.
This wasn't there a few weeks ago and I certainly didn't put it there myself.
Perhaps it came with a recent game???
Thanks

It parses (or sifts through) XML files to verify syntax.
It stands for MicroSoft eXtensible Markup Language Parser (I capitalized the letters that form the abbriviation).
-
Thanks.
Any idea how it got on my machine if I didn't put it there and I'm the sole user?
I did install a new graphics card and Sim City 4 recently but that's about it.

I had the same question a few weeks ago
If I uninstall it, the Age Of Mythology Demo does not work.
So my guess is that it installs with Sim City 4.

According to this MSKB article the listed games require MSXML.
Have you either of these, or demo versions ?
-
Ahhhhhhh.
I did in fact play the Age Of Mythology demo a short while ago.
I'd uninstalled it though.
-
When you uninstall it, it does not uninstall the MSXML parser.

what does msxml parser do? I do not play games do I need this on my computer?
-
It processes XML files. XML files can be used by web sites and other applications. Whether you need it or not might depend on what applications you have installed or what web sites you need to access. It should not hurt anything to leave it unless it is causing some sort of problem.
