Dex connection to monitor

So my free Dex has finally arrived for my Galaxy Note 8.

Trying to connect it to my Dell 2007WFP monitor to save buying a second screen. Bought a full 1080p HDMI to VGA Video Converter Adapter Cable Male to Male D-SUB 15 Pin M/M Full 1080P with 3.5mm Audio Output One-way Signal Converter-1.8m/6f as the monitor can switch between two feeds, BUT...

I get the error message - 'Input signal out of range' change the setting to 1680 1050 60Hz but I've checked and it's already at that. I've also tried updating my graphics card driver.

Any help appreciated :confused:

Thanks for that. Maybe the free Dex needs a new monitor so not so free ;)
