Tape Drive HP35470A
I have had one of these things fall in my lap, and I wanted to give it a try. Win98 has the driver for the SCSI card, but not the drive itself. The HP website offers a firmware executable for this device, but I don't know what to do with it. Anybody able to shed some light on this for me?

I assume that because this is an executeable download, it does all the work for itself. It is not like a BIOS flash where you need another file/program or the use of a boot disk. Here is what the "Read Me" file from the zip download of the update says....
"Download.exe is a DOS utility to download firmware into HP DAT drives. It will
run on Adaptec SCSI cards with the appropriate driver installed.
Download is a memory hungry program, so if it fails, free up some base memory
and try it again.
Download takes one parameter - the location of the firmware files."
Here is an excerpt off a page I found.....
""Firmware" is a program within your HP Surestore DAT tape drive that is used to run such functions as controlling the drive through its self-test, back up procedures, fault diagnostics, and communicating and returning information back to the host computer. The version of the firmware in a HP Surestore DAT tape drive may change for a number of reasons such as to improve performance or compatibility, to fix hardware bugs, or to add specialist functions. Not all improvements that we make may directly improve the performance of your particular HP Surestore DAT tape drive. However, it is always a good idea to utilize the latest available firmware to take full advantage of ongoing improvements made during your product's life."
Also this page..... HP Support search
