Slow
Just checked my system... it says 3 gig of ram...
so why is everything so slow ?
I hit on a pic file.. then delete..
the delete box takes about 10 seconds to come up,
then another 5 to get rid of the pic.
I opened a doc folder with 200 pics inside
set to thumbs.... all that were appearing were the thumb outlines, an empty white box.
It was as though there was nt enough ram even to get a few thumb nail pics together....
There was nothing else running at the time...
Surely with 3 gig of ram this comp could put up a few thumbnail pics.
I went to desktop, hit recycle bin.... it did nt come up,
just a window... there are nt enough resources for this application !!!
Is there a page anywhere with standard advice to try and tweek your comp, to speed it up a little ....
it feels like Im in a car that should be cruising at 80 mph and I can hardly get 5 mph out of it !

Hello,
When is the last time you deleted all temp files and defragged?
For starters
Auslogic has a good defrag program for free
Dave

thanks for tips,
I know how to defrag, how often would you advise ?
(done it once in last 9 months .)
how do you delete temp files

Have you run Antivirus and Malware scans?
-
Use task manager to see what's hogging the processor and end the process

YES done malaware scan, did a full scan with super anti spyware, but about 10 mins into the scan the comp shut down
somehow the scan had triggered a blue screen.
Ive got avast installed which does a full scan once per week

Configure WindowsXP to disable caching thumbnails.
If applicable,
Remove file association with any/all third party graphics software, such as PhotoShop.

Thanks, but I dont want to disable thumbs, I want to see them,
but somehow the 3 gig ram Ive got cant handle the job
Ive got the defrag running now, its been going for 30 mins but still only at 3 % progress ..... so this may take a while
maybe this frag will perk up my ...slow... computor .

Another thing thats happening .. at least for past 7 days..
at 12.25pm every night the comp suddenly shuts down.
It automatically comes back on again but I have to wait for
15 mins till it reboots

See if you have a scheduled task set up in task scheduler that shuts you down or restarts you at that time of day. The following link explains how to check.

For the slow problem:
Be sure your swap file is enabled and your drive is not getting too full
