Win 2k start up items
Whenever I install a program, I never place any items pertaining to that program in my startup. What are the neccessary items that should be in startup needed to run win 2k? I want to make sure I don't have any other items in my startup that don't need to be there.

Startup: I've got zonealarm and that's it
Run Line in Regedit: I've got antivirus, and my fax software

Win 2k doesn't need anything in particuliar to be listed in startup to run? I know when I was using win 98SE, there were a few things that had to be in startup for 98 to run. When I type msconfig in run box, and select startup, I have these checked:
startupmonitor
kmw_run (pertains to my Kensington mouse)
nwiz (not sure what that is)
NvMcTray (suppose this is pertaining to my video card)
So, are you saying I could uncheck the only 4 items above that are in my startup? Win 2k doesn't need anything listed in there to run?

Anyone have an answer? :(

My feeling is that what is required in your startup folder is directly related to your installed hardware and software. Here is a link to a version of msconfig that works with Win2000. Use it to try checking and unchecking various startup items to see what you need and what you don't need.

Hi JLS,
startupmonitor
kmw_run (pertains to my Kensington mouse)
nwiz (not sure what that is)
NvMcTray (suppose this is pertaining to my video card)
Startupmonitor monitors changes in your start up menu and the registry, pops up a warning... not essential up to you.
kmw_run is loaded with your kensington mouse and can be disabled.
nwiz comes with nvidia and can be disabled (allows advanced display settings)
Nv Mctray also display settings ,can be disabled.
